Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Prime place among many other lodges in the area
The Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, perched high on the rim of this incredible natural wonder, takes first place among many other lodges in the area. With views spanning the spectacular caldera, you can enjoy a relaxing visit to this otherwise bustling attraction and immerse yourself in a world that is home to approximately 25,000 animals on a permanent basis.
The large herds of game that have found refuge here roam over 20 kilometers on the crater floor, providing some excellent game viewing opportunities. On the hunt for their own families, prides of bachelor lions can be seen strewn across the landscape, and a rhino rump can be seen in the distance among the plains game. Morning and afternoon game drives are led by highly experienced guides, and visits to the nearby Olduvai Gorge are available when vehicle occupancy permits.
The crater can get quite crowded, but with three potential hideaways within the lodge, you won’t notice the thirty suites that comprise the lodge. The North and South Camps each have twelve beautiful suites, while the Tree Camp, which is slightly separated from the others, only has six. These stilted rooms are all tastefully decorated with Tanzanian hardwoods and silk curtains that keep the room nice and warm; after all, the ridge can get quite chilly! The dining areas have lovely viewing decks and extremely comfortable indoor lounges, perfect for catching up on some midday afternoon reading or ticking off the birds you’ve seen so far. You could also decide to have a relaxing massage in your room, and completely pamper yourself.
