Masai Mara Game Reserve

Home to the Great Migration

Home » Destinations » Kenya » Masai Mara Game Reserve
Kenya’s Masai Mara is one of the world’s most famous game reserves, hosting the Great Migration every year, when millions of wildebeest thunder across the plains in search of fresh pasture.
Between July and October, herds of widebeest migrate to the Maasai Mara from Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park’s dry plains. The wildebeest must cross the Mara River on the border, which is the most dangerous part of the journey, with hungry crocodiles lurking beneath the surface. The sound of millions of clattering hooves and the spray of water as they crash through the river is a breathtaking sight and one of Africa’s premier wildlife experiences.
However, it should not be forgotten that the Masai Mara has one of the highest concentrations of wildlife all year. A visit here will allow you to see the big five, as well as huge pods of hippos basking in the rivers, cheetahs racing across the savannah, and giraffes wandering between the acacia trees.
