Sanctuary Olonana Camp
A fantastic camp for families, with a kids club and a variety of special activities
Sanctuary Olonana Camp is situated on a private section of the Mara River, providing you with spectacular views of the animals as they wander down the banks every day. The camp’s relationship with local communities, as well as its efforts to be as environmentally responsible as possible, distinguish it from others.
There are fourteen canvas pavilions dotted along the river, each with parquet flooring and four poster beds. With a modern twist, this lodge features a library as well as a pool for an afternoon dip. If you feel like you need some extra pampering, you can head down to the mini spa for some traditional African treatments while listening to the sounds of the bush.
Aside from the usual fantastic game drives where you can see the big five and over 300 bird species, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a nature work outside the reserve. These are extremely educational, and your guides will point out the most amazing things, such as animal tracks and spoor, as well as locations where lions have marked their territory. Because the lands are home to more than just game, you can also visit a Maasai village to gain cultural insight into the traditional lives of these remarkable people.
There is a kids club and a variety of special activities at this camp, making it ideal for families. Expert guides will accompany children on game drives and to a nearby Maasai village where they will learn how to make and shoot a traditional bow and arrow, make a fire, build a hut, and herd cattle, to name a few activities. Children will also have the opportunity to interact with local kids while playing football together, as well as learn Maasai songs and traditional dances. Other activities include going on a nature trail and learning about animal footprint identification, as well as participating in a bush treasure hunt and planting their own tree.
