Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp
A timeless setting with breathtaking views over the game covered plains that surround it
Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp is set in a beautiful community-owned concession near the Masai Mara Game Reserve and the Kenyan border, offering a timeless setting with breathtaking views of the game-filled plains that surround it. The fact that this camp is closely involved with local community and conservation efforts adds another layer to your stay, implying that your stay will benefit many people.
The camp itself is unabashedly colonial in style, with dark woods, swaths of canvas, and antique pieces, and consists of ten tents that are spaced out to ensure privacy. Four of the ten are family suites with living rooms and fireplaces, and one is a one-of-a-kind honeymoon suite. Every room has an en suite shower, and safari baths and showers can be set up in the savannah for unforgettable ablutions.
At the heart of Cottar’s are two main mess tents with areas for fine dining, drinking, reading, and relaxing. There’s also a pool and a spa.
The Cottar family has decades of experience here, and they have the most Gold (the highest professional level) Safari Guides in one camp in Kenya, each chosen for their unique skillset and personalities, ensuring that a safari here, whether on foot or game drives, is always a fantastic experience.
Cultural interaction with the local Maasai community, with whom the Cottars have collaborated for many years, is genuine and not at all touristy. The award-winning camp also has some of the highest ecotourism ratings on the market.
