Peponi Hotel
A charm and welcoming character that perfectly suits its location

Peponi, located at the end of the spectacular Shela Beach, has become something of a Lamu institution since its inception in 1967. It is still run by the same family and has a charming and welcoming character that complements its location on the outskirts of the Old Town and makes it an ideal place to unwind after a safari.
There are 29 rooms and apartments, two of which have larger living areas and two bedrooms. Apartment guests have the option of eating any meal in the hotel restaurant (with freshly caught fish delivered to the beach by fishermen off the boat), having it served in their apartment, or self-catering – either with a private chef or by themselves. All rooms have overhead fans, mosquito nets, showers, and fresh flowers, and larger rooms have private verandas with swing beds.
Peponi has a legendary bar as well as magnificent gardens with an incredible collection of exotic plants and tropical palms. Under the shade of coconut trees, guests can relax in hammocks while watching dhows sail by or cool off in the hotel’s fresh water pool, which is nestled between two massive baobab trees.
