Segera, a unique and elegant safari retreat designed in a natural style, was founded by philanthropist Jochen Zeitz as part of the Zeitz Foundation to support creative and innovative sustainable projects and solutions that balance conservation, community development, culture, and commerce. The property is set in a 50,000 acre ranch in the heart of Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau, surrounded by lovely sculpted gardens and expansive lawns, with stunning views of Mount Kenya.
Six spacious timber thatched villas provide accommodation. There is one large Segera villa with a bedroom, terrace, day bed with its own pool, and both an indoor and outdoor lounge, as well as Segera House, which has two bedrooms, a central lounge, roof terraces, and its own private pool area, making it a good option for families.
Spend a night in the NAY PALAD Bird Nest, a new addition and one of Africa’s most unique rooms. The interior suite, built and designed from raw materials such as actual tree branches woven into a nest by local community members, features a fully-equipped bathroom with running solar heated water and a literal 360 degree bird’s eye view over the river and plains below from the top deck.
There’s also a spa, gym, art gallery, and a fantastic old Wine Tower where you can dine.
This is also a first-rate game viewing area; on your daily drives, you can expect to see elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, buffalo, antelopes, gazelles, and the extremely rare Grevy’s zebras and Patas monkeys. Another popular attraction is the Gipsy Moth biplane, which appeared in the film Out of Africa and can take you on an unforgettable aerial safari.
