Loisaba Tented Camp

A Luxurious Wilderness Escape in Laikipia.

Loisaba Tented Camp is more than just a safari lodge—it’s a model for sustainable tourism. The camp operates with a clear vision: to make a meaningful impact on both the environment and the surrounding communities. The conservancy is managed with the support of The Nature Conservancy and the Loisaba Community Trust, combining conservation efforts with economic development. Revenue generated from tourism is reinvested directly into conservation programs, community development projects, and security operations to protect endangered wildlife such as elephants and the rare African wild dog.

The camp also works closely with neighboring Samburu communities, offering employment, supporting schools and health initiatives, and providing access to water and grazing land. A stay here contributes to a larger mission of preserving Kenya’s wildlife heritage and improving the lives of the people who live alongside it.

Exceptional Accommodation: Chic Comfort in the Wild

Loisaba Tented Camp offers eight spacious tented suites, designed with elegance, comfort, and style. Each of the five luxury double tents is expansive and well-appointed, blending chic Africana décor with contemporary European flair. High-quality linens, handcrafted furniture, and warm earthy tones reflect the landscape while offering all the modern comforts a guest might need. Each suite features a stylish ensuite bathroom with solar-heated hot showers, double basins, and flush toilets. Large verandahs extend from the tents, providing private areas to relax, read, or simply soak in the uninterrupted views across the Laikipia plains.

In addition to the double tents, the camp has three thoughtfully designed family tents. Each consists of two en-suite tents joined by a comfortable lounge area and a shared deck. These are perfect for families or groups of friends traveling together, offering space, privacy, and an intimate setting in which to bond and enjoy the wild surroundings.

Communal Spaces Designed for Relaxation and Connection

The heart of Loisaba Tented Camp lies in its communal areas, which are open, airy, and welcoming. The main dining area, lounge, and bar are set under a large open-sided structure, inviting in the light, breeze, and views. Beautifully furnished with African art pieces, rustic wood, and plush seating, these spaces allow guests to unwind between safari activities.

Meals are served in the spacious open-air dining area or on the vast wooden deck, which is ideal for al fresco dining under the stars. The cuisine is a highlight, with locally sourced ingredients, freshly prepared meals, and attentive service that caters to all dietary needs.

A true standout feature is the infinity pool, arguably one of the most scenic in Africa. Positioned right at the edge of the escarpment, it seems to blend into the horizon, offering a tranquil spot to cool off while watching wildlife roam below in the valley.

A Hub of Adventure and Discovery

One of the defining aspects of Loisaba Tented Camp is the vast array of activities available to guests. Unlike many other safari destinations that focus only on game drives, Loisaba offers an immersive and varied adventure experience that caters to a wide range of interests and energy levels.

Game Drives – Day and Night:
Explore the 56,000-acre Loisaba Conservancy in custom-designed open Land Rovers with experienced guides. Day drives reveal herds of elephants, prides of lions, and rare species such as the Grevy’s zebra and wild dog. Night drives, equipped with spotlights, open up a new world—nocturnal animals like aardvarks, genets, and leopards emerge in the cool evening air.

Horseback Safaris:
Enjoy the quiet beauty of Laikipia on horseback—an intimate and eco-friendly way to encounter wildlife. Skilled guides lead riders across the plains, offering close encounters with giraffes, zebras, and antelope.

Camel Trekking:
For a truly African experience, take a camel safari guided by local Samburu warriors. Camels have long been part of nomadic life in northern Kenya, and riding one through this landscape brings a cultural and adventurous dimension to your journey.

Guided Bush Walks:
Walking safaris offer a deeper connection to the land. Accompanied by knowledgeable guides, you’ll learn about animal tracks, bird calls, medicinal plants, and the subtle details of the bush that you might miss from a vehicle.

Mountain Biking and Fishing:
For those seeking a more active adventure, mountain biking trails wind through the conservancy, offering stunning scenery and the thrill of riding through the wild. Fishing is also available in the area’s seasonal rivers and dams.

Cultural and Community Visits:
Visit local Samburu communities to gain a deeper understanding of their customs, way of life, and the close relationship they share with the land and wildlife. Guests can also tour Loisaba’s anti-poaching canine unit, where trained sniffer dogs play a vital role in protecting wildlife from poachers.

A Night Under the Stars: Pair with Loisaba Starbeds

To elevate your Loisaba experience, consider combining your stay at Loisaba Tented Camp with a night at the nearby Loisaba Starbeds. Here, guests sleep in handcrafted four-poster beds on raised platforms, which are rolled out each evening under the vast African sky. It’s a magical and unforgettable experience—falling asleep to the sounds of the wild, under a sky glittering with stars.
