Sarara Camp

100% owned by the community it serves

Sarara is a down-to-earth safari camp that is all about showing you the treasures of northern Kenya and the Samburu. It is located directly across from the Mathews Mountain Range, amidst the pristine 850,000 acres set aside for the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy Trust Land. Sarara is unique in that it is completely owned by the community it serves.
The camp is almost entirely self-sufficient, powered by solar panels and supplied with fresh water from mountain springs. Walking safaris and camel rides are their signature activities, along with game drives, fly camping, and visits to the famous Sarara “singing wells.” The camp is also well-known for overlooking a nearby watering hole, where many animals (buffalo, African wild dog, cheetah, lion, leopard, giraffe, elephant, and antelope) congregate during the dry season as one of their only sources of water, bringing some of the best game observation right to the camp’s front door.
Its six comfortable and spacious tented rooms feature flushing toilets, hot and cold open air showers, and electric lighting, as well as commanding views of the Mathews Range. There is also a family cottage available, and the main camp area includes an inviting lounge, dining area, and a natural rock infinity pool to cool off in between daily outings.
Sarara is a one-of-a-kind and friendly Samburu experience that includes not only wildlife but also the cultural and scenic wonders of northern Kenya, this pristine wilderness, and its people.
